Seoul, February 11th 2018, at 5 am, while I am in my apartment, steaming clothes, the light coming from the windows seems to have gotten a bit brighter. I check the time. Almost an hour has gone by. I need to go, I think to myself while starting to fold and fit all the items I am surrounded by, carefully, into a couple of bags.
The cold air hits me right after crossing the front door, it is -15 degrees out and there is no one on the street, making the dynamic and usually noisy city of Seoul, seem for once, almost as the calmest place on earth. The bags are a bit heavy and my hands hurt under their weight, I can also feel how cold they are because with the rush, I have forgotten to get my gloves. Lorena, I think to myself, but I smile, realizing at that moment, that very few things can take away the excitement that a new creative project gives me.
I take the 6 am train, sitting on one of the many spots available, a simple gesture that can at times, feel like such a luxury. Living in Seoul, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with a population of about 25 million people, something as simple as sitting comfortably on public transportation, does not happen every day and because of that, I decide to enjoy it to the fullest. I sit on one of those marvelous heated seats, leaving my bags on the floor and enjoying my morning ride, without being squeezed among other passengers. I feel calm and content and decide to just take my time there, to enjoy looking at the city laying under my eyes.
The frozen river seems majestic among the morning mist, a mist that gives the whole city a very special aesthetic. It makes me feel at peace and even though I do not generally like to wake up early, it all clicks, making me understand why some people do. I take my time, looking at that calm city through the first sunrays, which gives me that weird feeling in my gut, telling me that I am in the right place, on the place where l should be. Time seems to have gone by, both, fast and slow. I had time to go over many things in my head, but also without realizing it, the minutes have flown by leaving me at my destination.
I grab my bags and get off the train while heading to the showroom where we will be shooting. While walking along Sinsa, one of the most popular neighborhoods in terms of fashion, I travel through the streets almost by myself, only crossing a couple of people along the way, until I finally reached my destination.
